Photo Essay: First Meeting of States Parties to the
Convention on Cluster Munitions
The historic Convention on Cluster Munitions entered into
force 1st of August 2010. The First Meeting of States Parties to
the Convention – the largest international gathering ever hosted
by the Government of Lao PDR – brought together delegates from
118 states and more than 560 civil society representatives to
discuss ways forward in implementing the Convention. The meeting
was organised in Vientiane, Lao PDR from 9 to 12 November 2010.
In the meeting, States committed to accelerate progress on
clearance and stockpile destruction; expand the coverage of
services for victims; enhance cooperation with international
organisations and civil society, and provide timely transparent
reporting of progress.
