To stimulate dialogue on development in Lao PDR through disseminating existing knowledge, serving as forum where analytical and critical thinking on development issues can be shared.
The journal initiative “Juth Pakai, Perspectives on Lao Development”, launched in February 2004, is supported by the UN Country Team in Lao PDR. Juth Pakai (translated as New Thinking in Lao) aims to stimulate dialogue on relevant development topics in Lao PDR, by disseminating existing knowledge, serving as a forum where analytical and critical thinking on development issues and challenges can be shared, and by promoting the exchange of knowlege and expertise. Juth Pakai will also help promote and advance the goals and commitments embodied in the Millennium Declaration.
Juth Pakai creates new and on-going collaborative opportunities with educational centers, researchers and research institutions as well as organizations interested in Lao PDR. Juth Pakai plays an instrumental role in broadening the audience for development related research and learning related to Lao PDR, thereby creating a better understanding of development challenges and opportunities in Lao PDR.
The Journal seeks full academic essays and/or “Letters to the Editor” from the development community, including development practitioners, government officials, staff from bilateral and multilateral agencies and NGOs, journalists, academics, researchers and anyone with keen interests in Lao PDR. The Journal was published three times a
year, both in English and in Lao languages until it was put
on hold in August 2007.
