Leadership Forum 2010, organized in Vientiane on 30 and 31 March, will bring together many leaders from different backgrounds to exchange best practices, share inspiring case studies, and expand networks with the aim of creating an enabling environment for local leadership development initiatives or activities. Leadership Forum 2010 participants are a diverse group of people: public and private sector, policy makers, development partners, INGO’s and not-for-profit organizations.
The forum is organized in cooperation with the National Academy of Politics and Public Administration, the Public Administration and Civil Service Authority, SNV - the Netherlands Development Organization and the United Nations Development Programme.
In 2007, when organized for the first time, the Forum focused on awareness-raising. In 2010, the focus is set to leadership development and future plans for improved coordination and alignment of leadership development initiatives.
International guest speakers from Vietnam and Philippines will share their country’s experience on how to enhance inclusive, quality and sustainable leadership development
with Lao participants. Highlighting key challenges and opportunities, local guest speakers from sectors represented will share their perspectives for leadership development in Laos.
With the topic of inclusiveness, the forum addresses meaningful participation of multiple actors in governance, particularly focusing on both genders, people with disabilities and civil society as a whole. With the topic of quality, the forum emphasizes quality control mechanisms in many levels of management, aiming at enhancing transparency and accountability. With the topic of sustainability, the forum addresses global problems affecting Lao PDR, such as natural disasters, environmental problems and combating poverty. Addressing financial and institutional sustainability
will support Lao PDR in its goal of achieving the Millennium development goals by 2015.
One of the objectives of the forum is to create a joint vision on leadership development in the Lao PDR, identifying priority areas for leadership development for the coming five years.
